JUDITH LIT: PRODUCER/DIRECTOR
After a childhood spent on her family’s farm in rural Pennsylvania, Judith earned a B.A. from Syracuse University’s Newhouse School of Communications and an M.A. in Theater Arts from University of Colorado. She began her filmmaking career as Associate Producer of internationally acclaimed Dark Circle, a feature length documentary on the perils of the nuclear arms race and its link to nuclear energy production. The film garnered numerous awards including a National Emmy, Grand Prize at Sundance, Blue Ribbon at the American Film Festival and a Certificate of Special Merit from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences. Judith went on to produce and direct award-winning Voices from the Classroom, a look at the crisis in American education, and As Seen on TV, exploring the impact of television violence on young children. She was director of post-production for Teresa Tollini’s Breaking Silence and Ruth Landy’s Places for the Soul, coordinated distribution of Pat Ferrero’s Quilts in Women's Lives and Hopi: Songs of the Fourth World, and was director of the San Francisco Women on Screen Film Festival. She has served on the jury of the San Francisco Film Festival and the American Film Festival. In addition to directing and producing After Winter, Spring, Judith was co-author with Jane Weiner and Anne Kunvari of award-winning Agriculture Bio, Cultiver l’Avenir? for Arte France on the risks faced by beekeepers, farmers and wine makers in Burgundy as they shift to organic methods. For the last 20 years, she has divided her time between New York City and a small farm in the Périgord region of southwestern France.
STÉPHANE CARBON: CINEMATOGRAPHER
Stéphane has acted as director of photography for more than twenty years, filming more than a hundred documentaries for Arte, Canal +, TF1, France 3, France 5, as well as other broadcasters. In addition, he has filmed fiction features, tele-films, docu-fictions, and short subjects. A few of the films he has shot include: L’Affaire Agnès S (docu-fiction), En Lumière (portraits of cinematographers), L’Enfant des Rizieres, L’Affaire Mis et Thienot, (docu-fiction), David Bowie (for Arte), Les Gardiens de la Fôret (documentary), Les Lumières de Sarlat (documentary), and the historical series Demeures et Lieux de L’Histoire, and Portraits d’Acteurs et d’Actrices. He has served as cinematographer for numerous films produced by UP Vidéo, notably a collection of documentaries about the deportations during WWII (Au Plus Profond de la Nuit, Les Flammes de la Mémoire). His recent fiction work includes La Memoire dans le Chair and The Rehearsal with Leslie Caron.
JENNIFER CHINLUND: EDITOR
Jennifer has edited many award-winning documentaries, including films shown on PBS’s POV series: The Self Made Man, Discovering Dominga, Baby It’s You, and Complaints of a Dutiful Daughter, which won an Emmy and was nominated for an Academy Award. Other broadcast credits include Secrets of Silicon Valley and Beyond the Call, both on Independent Lens; Coming to Light: Edward S. Curtis and the North American Indian for American Masters; Ishi, the Last Yahi for American Experience; and Children of the Amazon and Atomic Mom. A consummate filmmaker and collaborator, her talents as a storyteller combined with her understanding of character and her skills in deciphering complex historical subject matter make her an editor in demand. Her films have been shown at numerous festivals including Sundance, New York Film Festival, Berlin Film Festival, San Francisco International Film Festival, American Film Festival, and the Tribeca Film Festival.
TODD BOEKELHEIDE: ORIGINAL MUSIC
Todd began as a sound editor and now for over 25 years has composed music for film. His work ranges from narrative feature films, to documentaries and short subjects. His dramatic films include Spin directed by James Redford, The Outsider by Ronda Haines, One by Tony Barieri, and Nina Takes a Lover by Alan Jacobs. His numerous documentaries include Have You Heard from Johannesberg by Connie Field, Trust: Second Acts in Young Lives by Nancy Kelly and Kenji Yamamoto, She is the Matador by Gemma Cubero and Celeste Carrasco, Soldiers of Conscience by Gary Weimberg and Catherine Ryan, and Ballets Russes by Daniel Geller and Dana Goldfine. He received an Academy Award Nomination for Best Sound for Never Cry Wolf, an Emmy Award for Kids of Survival, and an Academy Award for Best Sound for Amadeus.
SYLVAIN GIRARDEAU: SOUND RECORDIST
Sylvain has recorded sound for a great many documentaries as well as fiction films for Arte, France 2, France 3, M6, Planète, and RFO. His documentary work includes L’Hôpital des Enfants, a series of 20 52 minute episodes for Gilles de Maistre, Les Nouveaux Explorateurs: La Mongolie, and Buñuel: Athée Grâce à Dieu. Fiction features include Pas de Repos pour les Braves (No Rest for the Brave) and Voici Venu le Temps (Time Has Come) directed by Alain Guiraudie. Additionally, he has served as sound engineer for numerous concerts and music recordings, works as a sound editor, and composes music for documentaries.
CHRISTOPHE (TITO) DEPINHO: SOUND RECORDIST
Acting as a sound recordist, sound editor and mixer, Tito has worked on numerous documentaries for Arte, Canal +, France 2, France 5, M6, and other broadcasters. He also served as Sound Supervisor and Director of Post-Production for a 13 part series coproduced by Warner Brothers. Films he has worked on include: Not in Our Name by Philippe Borel, October 1917 by Paul Jenkins and Pierre André Boutang, Monsieur Neuwirth, Tenez Bon! by Sébastien Grall, Le Système Poutine by Jean Michel Carré, Claude Lévi-Strauss par Lui-même by Pierre André Boutang, Bolchoï: une Renaissance by Denis Snegirev, Dans la Tête d’Al Qaida by Paul Jenkins and Georges Malbrunot, and Vauban by Pascal Cuissot. Tito is a performing musician in addition to his film work.
DAVID HURST: ASSOCIATE PRODUCER
With a French mother and British father, David was born and raised in the Périgordine countryside. He began his work in cinema as a driver for the American film shot in the Dordogne, Ever After: A Cinderella Story, with Angelica Huston and Drew Barrymore. Several months later, he was recruited as assistant director on Jeanne d’Arc by Luc Besson. He produced short films for Têtes à Clap in Bordeaux, was production manager for Zangra Productions, and worked as unit and location manager for numerous telefilms, publicity spots and feature films. In 2006, he and Fabrice Main founded Dublin Films, an independent production company located in Bordeaux. Dublin’s documentaries and fiction films have garnered awards at major international festivals and received wide broadcast. David has acted as the French producer of After Winter, Spring.
JOHN NUTT: SOUND EDITOR
As a post-production vagabond, John has worked at Zoetrope Studios, Lucasfilm, The Saul Zaentz Film Company, KQED, KRON, as well as a variety of independent production companies. As a sound supervisor and sound editor he has worked on more than eighty feature films; directly and creatively involved with: Francis Coppola (Jack, Apocalypse Now), Milos Forman (Amadeus), Carroll Ballard (The Black Stallion), David Lynch (Blue Velvet, Twin Peaks, Wild at Heart), Keith Gordon (Midnight Clear, Waking the Dead, The Singing Detective), Wes Anderson (Rushmore), John Waters (Serial Mom, Pecker, Cecil B. Demented), Tim Burton (Ed Wood), Phil Kaufman (The Body Snatchers), Rob Cohen (Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story, Skulls), Robert Duvall (Apostle), Sean Penn (The Pledge), Walter Salles (Exposure) and many others. He is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS). For his work supervising sound on Amadeus he was awarded a BAFTA Award, the British equivalent of an Oscar.
PETE HORNER: RE-RECORDING MIXER
Pete has worked on numerous films as a sound editor, re-recording mixer, and sound designer. Several of the films on which he was sound editor include Francis Coppola’s Apocalypse Now Redux, Errol Morris’ Standard Operating Procedure, John Haptas and Kris Samuelson’s Tokyo Waka, and Sam Mendes' Jarhead. He was re-recording mixer on, among other films, Francis Coppola’s One from the Heart (director’s cut) and The Outsiders: The Complete Novel, Lauren Greenfield’s The Queen of Versailles, Terry Zwikoff’s Art School Confidential, and Morgan Neville’s Twenty Feet From Stardom. He was both sound designer and re-recording mixer on A Perfect Place by Derrick Scocchera, Youth Without Youth, by Francis Coppola, and Phillip Kaufman’s Hemingway & Gellhorn, for which he received an Emmy Award for Outstanding Sound Editing. Like Judith Lit, Pete grew up on a Pennsylvania farm.
CHRISTOPHER BEAVER: PRODUCTION CONSULTANT, ADDITIONAL CINEMATOGRAPHY
Chris is an acclaimed documentary producer, director, and author who has also served as an editorial and production consultant for Michael Moore’s Roger and Me, Mark Mori’s Academy-Award nominated Building Bombs, Denise Zmekhol’s Children of the Amazon, and now Judith Lit’s After Winter, Spring. His own films as a producer-director include award-winning Dark Circle, Treasures of the Greenbelt, Tales of the San Joaquin, and Vanished Lake: A Story of California. He is the recipient of a National Emmy Award and a Certificate of Special Merit from the documentary committee of the Academy Awards.
KYUNG LEE: POST-PRODUCTION SUPERVISOR
Kyung Lee is a post-production supervisor and editor working primarily in documentary film production. She was post-production manager at Link TV, a national satellite television network until 2011. Since then, in addition to her work as an editor and post production supervisor for many San Francisco Bay Area documentaries, she produced and directed Telos: The Fantastic World of Eugene Tssui. She earned a master’s degree in Media Studies from San Jose State University and a bachelor’s degree from Keio University in Japan. A native of Japan with Korean ancestry, she is fluent in both English and Japanese.
